Yannis Tzortzis (GR)

Photography captures glimpses of everyday life. Portraits depicted in
photographic exposures, lose their characteristics. The essence of time becomes
disintegrated. The viewer becomes an interpreter of a non-vocal language, a
witness to a “space- less” reality.
Since 1986 Yannis Tzortzis has journeyed with his photography, exploring other
people’s truths and “diving” into the depths of his soul, his endless travels depicting
places that have suff ered, yet at the same time have been gifted with instincts
which unite life with the need to survive. Sites we haven’t visited, faces we haven’t
met, they are all placed under the elaboration of our common understanding.
Libya and the settlement of Ghadames are far away, but the sense of security
which one feels, being under a covered passage and the shapes, which s/he
recognizes on the surface of the earth and the sky, form parts of an ecumenical
culture, which stems from our body and the earth, heading towards global memory
and human likeness.
Pictures of everyday poetry, speak not only for the event, which they depict, but also
for its texture, its smell, its value. The Green Project “Phase II” exhibition photographs
depict the possibility of including humans into an environment, which doesn’t
suff ocate nature’s resistances, but it promotes them, instead. Tzortzis images become
memorabilia of other people’s lives and at the same time constitute an intercultural
bond. Their transformation into feelings and memory depends on the viewer.
