Vanessa Cardui, the butterfly species commonly known as “Painted Lady,” stands as a living testament to the marvels of nature. Its stunning appearance and impressive migratory abilities elevate it as a symbol of hope and adaptability.
This project revolves around Thanasis and Nikos, a married queer couple in Thessaloniki, preparing to move abroad. Despite facing discrimination and social challenges, their loving relationship thrives. Together, they pursue their passion for drag performance, with Thanasis as the performer and Nikos as the creative force behind the scenes. In Greece’s conservative environment, they confront stigma and political barriers that hinder their artistic expression. Yet, they remain determined to realize their dreams. Their decision to move abroad symbolizes not only a physical journey but also a quest for freedom, acceptance, and fulfillment.
Just as the “Painted Lady” embarks on its migratory journey with hope and resilience, Thanasis and Nikos embark on their own journey, guided by the belief that they deserve a place where they can spread their wings.
