My Lebanon opens a window on the refl ection of each Lebanese person’s ideal of
their own country and asks them when they believe their vision may become reality.
As a known characteristic, Lebanese tend to hold each a diff erent concept of their
country; it is thus extremely diffi cult for both a foreigner as well as for a Lebanese
to assess a coherent analysis of the present. Hence this project’s aim at the future.
The participants are asked to close their eyes and make an imaginative eff ort to
visualize their idea of Lebanon and give the year which will see this reality.
The diversity of the Lebanese melting pot is visible through the images not only
by somatic or aesthetic characteristics, but most importantly from the diversity of
their names, which are printed next to each person’s head, together with the year
they state as the achievement of their Lebanon.
The participants are also connected with brain analysis sensors, whose cables
come towards the camera. Like a clinical exam, this project’s outcome is tied to a
precise moment in time, coherently fi xed by the medium of photography. Through
these images I also invite the spectator to do an imaginative eff ort to decipher,
through this multiplicity of virtual connections, a personal image of this country,
hopefully independent from stereotypes and politicized mediatizations.
