Athens Photo Festival 2026

Nadia Kalara (GR)

The photographs depict deserted landscapes, in which we identify quarries and
garbage damps. The three projections simulate respectively the slow motion of
a small planet made from the landscapes of the photographs, a slow low-fl ying
investigation of its surface, and a tour in a dark, obscure space, marked with a
multitude of names of mythical sounding places like Arcadia Terra, Atlantis,
Utopia Planitia etc.
The photographs are the result of digital manipulation of multiple takes of the
same landscape from one or more perspectives. Some of them attempt the
embodiment of the peripheral vision into a unifi ed image. In others, the same
landscape is repeated in slightly diff erent sizes and perspectives. In every case
the viewer fi nds himself in the bizarre and distabilised position of simultaneous
distance and proximity while he follows his gaze creating a landscape like a
scanner, coupled with a strong sense of crumbling matter in the close up shots.
