West Africa is planet’s ground zero for vulnerable human communities struggling to adapt to a lethal mix of threats by the climate crisis, rising food prices and trafficking of people, arms and drugs. However, 2/3 of the world’s cocoa harvest is produced there, as well as it is the home to twelve of the most important UNESCO sites in Africa.
In 2023, the NGO Green Project carried out its 8th Green Photo Journey, crossing 4,074 km in Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana, Togo, Benin and Nigeria, visiting twelve organic cocoa farms, ten UNESCO sites and one renewable energy source facility. Its members shared the daily lives of cocoa farmers, such as https://threemountainscocoa.com/, who take care of their land wisely, so that the GREEN PROJECT team got unique insights of the indigenous people’s philosophy of sustainability, permeating all aspects of their lives, from nature management and social relations to personal identity.
