Manuel Capurso (IT)

With his photographs Capurso approaches the contemporary urban society
obliterates the typical social bonds experienced in small communities, creating a
sort of hybrid where all the bases of social solidarity lose signifi cance making the
people completely disconnected from the surrounding environment. People only
exist in their own world, they do not know each other and they never will. In this
contest the individuals are dreamed or imaged inhabitant of a twilight ness world,
where the light, a silence between breathes, comes out as a unique detail from
the darkness, and the people are part of a continuous spectacle, a big and endless
theatrical representation.
The images were taken on the street of megacity, and represent an exploration of
the contrast between today’s urban society and small communities living in the
outskirt of a contemporary multicultural metropolis.
The subjects appear in a dreamlike state of mind with their gaze fi xed on an
imaginary point. Light and darkness, color and shadow are almost dancing in a
circle, and the subjects gain visibility only within the surface, disappearing almost
immediately afterwards in the shade of the surrounding darkness.
