Luisa Whitton

Luisa Whitton uses multiple mediums to explore ‘high-concept’ questions, and to draw out a narrative that investigates the complexities of what it means to be human today. In her recent works titled “What About the Heart?” Whitton uses photography, video and text, to mimic the research methodology of Hiroshi Ishiguro, a scientist in the Japanese robotics industry who has made several robotic copies of himself. Through her investigation and use of portraiture, Whitton begins to uncover the psychological and philosophical complications of making a robotic ‘self-portrait,’ and dips in and out of images that highlight the uncanny side-effects technology can have on identity, and sense of self.
