“Present Griefs, Recent Disappointments” is a process of reconciling with my teenage self using photographic practice as a therapeutic tool. By visually poeticizing feelings of self-doubt, insecurity and body discomfort, I reconstruct aspects of my past with greater control and agency as an adult woman. Τhrough reshaping everyday objects, I explore how texture, weight, and placement can alter an object’s purpose. My main focus is on commonly used symbols of girlhood and on the awkwardness of the body during puberty. Through this process, I aim to replace feelings of shame with a sense of (constructed) nostalgia over that period.
