Chrisa Tsovili

This is not the first time one can have questions about the personal identity of an author, the way history of photography has been implemented and in the, and influenced the depiction of landscape. Searching for answers relating to individual space, nature and existence are familiar procedures to the artists.

The photographer Chrisa Tsovili explores the landscape and wonders: “How would seem the world we live in today, expressed through reports in the romanticism movement?” Tsovili influenced from her studies, discovers elements of painting to compose her aesthetics. Inspired from the intensity of the elements that dominate in nature, she captures the landscapes that offer a feeling of nostalgia of the past and escape from the evolution of modern civilization.

Tsovili faces the landscape without picturesque elements, impressed by the grandeur and subjugated from the divine. This is an ongoing dialogue between natural elements, sky and sea with the land. Heavy grey clouds dominate over the hills and villages, urban and industrial landscapes, while the liquid element defines the position of the horizon.

In this series, the photographer borrows aesthetic symbols from painting, uses photography to create a conversation between the Romantic movement and its depiction of the contemporary world.
