Ilias Bourgiotis (GR)

Curiosity motivated by the stories I had been told of Sicily was for me the occasion
to begin my photographic travelogue in the countries of the European South, an
itinerary that started in 1994 and lasted seven years.
There are two dominant features that one cannot help but notice while travelling
in Greece, Italy, Southern France, Spain and Portugal: The Sea and the Sky. Those
two constants are able to shape the close relation of the countries mentioned
above, urging the people in common actions, conducts and manifestations.
Their way of life through great excitements and tragic or droll situations, transforms
life and death into a feast.
The more you experience people of the South the more you feel that the
boundaries of civilisations, nationalities, diff erent beliefs and languages fall apart.
The more you travel in the European South, the closer you come to its people, the
more you feel that the origin, the way of life and the hope for a shared future are
common.
