The Sea Remembers
The Sea Remembers is a collaborative photographic project developed through the shared yet distinct perspectives of two artists exploring abandoned ships and coastal margins. Photographing both together and apart, the work unfolds through encounters with derelict vessels, where proximity and distance shape the act of seeing. Rather than functioning as a fixed document, the project constructs a photographic dialogue through images that echo, diverge, and respond to one another.
Drawing on the legend of the Flying Dutchman—the ship condemned to sail forever, suspended between arrival and disappearance—the work approaches abandoned ships as sites of haunted continuity. Devoid of human activity, these ships become spaces marked by erosion, silence, and the accumulation of time. Through observational photography and on-site exploration, the project moves beyond documentary description toward a more atmospheric reflection on solitude, decay, and memory.
Installed through image pairings and curatorial sequencing, the work resists singular authorship and linear narrative, emphasizing the relationships that emerge between the photographs themselves.
