Alexandra Papoutsi

Antonina is an ongoing project developed over the past two years, through which the photographer explores the world of Antonina—a Russian immigrant icon painter living in Menidi—and the relationship that gradually unfolds between them. Through vivid color and atmospheric light, the work seeks to convey the many facets of her personality and the emotional intensity that shapes her presence.

Following her on trips with her friends to hot springs near Athens, on walks through the forest, and during intimate moments of everyday life, the artist approaches Antonina’s present with unwavering curiosity and a discreet sense of intimacy and honors her past with the reverence one might reserve for a saint.
