EVENTS & INITIATIVES
Portfolio Reviews
Portfolio Reviews provide a meeting space for artists and photographers to engage with established professionals, get invaluable feedback, promote their work, and create meaningful connections. This year, 20 international experts, including festival directors, exhibition curators, publishers, critics, editors and others, will gather in Athens to meet and exchange with participating photographers.
Lab:1 Photography as a Relational Practice
Athens Photo Festival presents the first edition of PHOTOGRAPHY AS A RELATIONAL PRACTICE, an experimental research and practice laboratory which will invite to (re)think the “event of photography”, that is to say, the physical, material, historical and affective relations, situations and dynamics engendered and articulated around the production and dissemination of images. Over the course of four days, participants will explore the notion of encounter with photography, alongside Alejandro Acín (artist, designer and educator), Max Pinckers (photographer) and Natasha Christia (program’s curator).
Lab:2 Sculpting the Narrative
Athens Photo Festival presents “Sculpting Narratives”, intensive five-day workshop focused on the photographic process. Sculpting Narratives will prioritize hands-on learning, immersing participants in content creation within the diverse landscape of the ‘documentary’ genre. Led by photographers Myrto Papadopoulos, Alexandra Rose Howland, and editor-curator Cloé Kerhoas Özmen, each expert-led session is tailored to foster the development of participants’ projects and to advance their practice through collaborative group work, intimate sessions, and personalized guidance.
Book Awards Ceremony
As part of the 2024 Festival, we look forward to expanding our engagement with photobooks by introducing additional elements, including book awards, talks, and a curated exhibition.
Artist Talks
Invited artists, whose work and thought stand out for their process and critical insight, discuss their work, artistic practice, and the influences behind their works.
Performing the Exhibition
Τhe exhibition program has been an excellent opportunity for experimenting with the ways through which performance and photography can cross boundaries and create interesting hybrids.
Mediation Program
Mediation Program offers a series of guided tours and workshops, based on interactive and participative approaches, and focused on bringing visitors closer to the exhibitions of the Festival.
